Paper has powerful search functionality to find the exact courses and sections you're looking for.

Search for courses by course subject and number or by course title.

Tip: Search Shortcuts

Paper supports common subject shortcuts for Northwestern subjects! For example, CS turns into COMP_SCI, ME turns into MECH_ENG, and a bunch more. You can even use DTC to get both DSGN 106 and ENGLISH 106.

Using the search filter​

Use the funnel icon button below the search bar to filter your search.

Active filters will be displayed below the search bar. The funnel icon will be highlighted orange if any filters are active.

There are a ton of different criteria you can filter by, making it easy to find the exact courses you're looking for.

General​

  • Subject: Courses will be filtered by the specified subject.
  • Distribution Areas: Courses will be filtered by any of the selected distribution areas.

Plan-specific​

  • Units At Least (min) and Units At Most (max): Courses will be filtered by the number of units they are worth. If either field is left blank, there will be no min or max, respectively.
  • Include Legacy Courses: If checked, courses that are no longer offered will be included in the search results. This can be useful if you're adding old courses you've taken to previous years.

Schedule-specific​

  • Start After and Start Before: Course sections will be filtered by the time they start. If either the Start After or Start Before fields is left blank, it will default to 11:59 PM or 12:00 AM, respectively.
  • End After and End Before: Course sections will be filtered by the time they end. If either the End After or End Before fields is left blank, it will default to 11:59 PM or 12:00 AM, respectively.
  • Meeting Days: Course sections will be filtered by any of the selected meeting days.
  • Components: Course sections will be filtered by any of the selected components.
  • Instructor: Course sections will be filtered by instructor name.
  • Location: Course sections will be filtered by location.
